Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. What a journey this has been, and continues to be. I've needed every bit of support from family and friends. My husband Dave has welcomed my two young protagonists, Whitney & Edward into our home, and our two pups, Parker and Buddy, keep us both smiling. I taught middle grade students for many years. While I encouraged those aspiring young authors to pursue their dreams, I never imagined I’d become an author myself.
After all, writing a book takes time, dedication, and tons of support. One must be inspired to embark on such a mission, and in my case, a vivid dream was the catalyst I needed. While the details remain forever hidden, enchanting images of a polar bear and a dragon walking the shores of Lake Superior lingered. So, I dove in into my fantastical adventure. I began writing book one, The Polar Bear and the Dragon, Dawn of an Alliance in May of 2020, hoping it would be read by many, and maybe even encourage others to pursue their dreams.
I grew more intrigued as the story unfolded. Each day brought unexpected twists and turns that took the plot in exciting new directions. Two remarkable teen heroes lead the cast of characters, and embody the boundless energy and passion for life that I admire so much in kids.
Whitney, Edward, their families, and powerful alliance have become a part of our family, and that family continues to grow. As it turns out, writing that first book wasn’t nearly as daunting as I’d feared. Dawn of an Alliance launched The Polar Bear and the Dragon series. Dream Jumper followed the next year and Perilous Passage was completed in February of 2023.
Illustrator Mark Pate designed all three covers and all but one of the interior illustrations. The young wizard in book three was illustrated by a new artist, Mindy Indy. I hope you enjoy their whimsical depictions of characters and scenes.
This fantastical coming-of-age adventure is written for middle grade readers, but its unique plot driven by compelling characters has universal appeal. The characters, real and imaginary, experience hope and fear, just like us. When confronted with difficult challenges, they grow stronger and learn valuable life lessons.
Enjoy the Polar Bear and the Dragon. Your heartfelt and honest feedback makes me a better writer. So, if you have a moment, please share your thoughts with me. I can be found at www.dwatsonauthor.com
